Nice idea to leave and find yourself in the middle of the sea and enjoy the time that passes lulled by the waves, but who knows how much it costs to rent a catamaran for a holiday in Sardinia? This is the real question that everyone asks themselves when it comes to a sailing holiday.

holiday-coast-north-west-sardinia-by-catamaranThe boat holiday is often associated with luxury, something out of budget for standard holidays or designed according to old criteria. In some cases this is true, but this is not always the case. In fact, many are discovering a new way of ‘doing’ vacation. Reshuffling the cards in play and in the end you perceive what can really give a boat experience. In short, maybe you pay to have much more from a simple holiday.

Boat holiday: costs

The cost of a holiday in general depends on many items. There is no single reference price.
A week-long cruise on New Year’s Eve will definitely cost more than a weekend in the mountains in spring. This is obvious, but then these prices?

The most correct answer would be “it depends”. But we want to write this article that talks about costs and therefore also give numbers.
Obvious indicative numbers but that well represent how much a boat holiday can cost.

Here’s what to consider when making a quote to rent a boat:

  • the season,
  • the place,
  • duration,
  • the type of boat.

So let’s make a hypothesis and try to calculate how much a week on the boat costs in summer in Sardinia. In order to give some figures we take as a reference the catamaran rental.

Catamaran rental cost per week

catamaran-bonifacioRemember that when you make comparisons of multiple quotes you have to evaluate the equipment of the boat, the spaces, what is included such as insurance, water toys, … and what is obviously excluded from the rental. But here are some reference numbers for renting a catamaran

  • From 38 to 42 feet – from 3.000,00€ (in low season + expenses) / week
  • From 42 to 45 feet – from 4.000,00€ (in low season + expenses) / week
  • From 45 to 48 feet – from 6.500,00€ (in low season + expenses) / week
  • From 48 to 52 feet – from 8.000,00€ (in low season + expenses) / week
  • From 52 to 60 feet – from 12.000,00€ (in low season + expenses) / week
  • From 60 feet onwards – from 25.000,00€ (in low season + expenses) / week

What are the expenses to be added?

It all depends on the type of holiday.
That is, if it is a lease (usually up to 50/52 feet) all extras must be added, below those always mandatory.
– final cleaning (price varies from the size of the boat) from € 150.00 to € 300.00
– sheets and towels from € 15.00 to € 25.00 per person
– outboard motor for the tender from € 150.00 to € 250.00
The extras options are usually the bbq, beach towels, water toys, etc.
The price for the skipper varies from € 180.00 to € 240.00 per day + food.
The price of the hostess from € 150.00 to € 240.00 per day + food.
The chef’s price from € 200.00 to € 300.00 per day + food.
If it is a rental, in this case the crew and all the on-board equipment (towels, sheets, beach towels, bathroom kit such as shower gel, shampoo, outboard engine for the tender, water toys, etc.) are included.
However, VAT and APA (Advanced Provisioning Allowance) remain to be added.

Other costs to consider

Moorings

The cheapest (and most beautiful) way to spend the night is to sleep in the harbor: remember rada = zero cost. When you want to spend the evening ashore or if the captain decides that it is safer, you will need to pay for the mooring. At the buoy you start from 15-20.00 €, in marinas it depends on where you are: from 40.00 € upwards (multiply by 4 or 5 in famous and renowned locations).

Galley

To eat, consider a week’s shopping as you would at home. It’s up to you to treat yourself to something more or something less. From our experience we can tell you that the aperitifs that are made on the boat at every opportunity, but even in this case everything is subjective. Eating at the restaurant is at your discretion.

Fuel

Usually with the rental you bring back the boat with a full tank, as they delivered it to you.

Getting to the port

It is trivial to say, but one item to consider is the journey to get to the port of embarkation. A departure close to home allows you to greatly lower the budget allocated to the holiday.
